It’s #worldpoetryday and I couldn’t let it pas

It’s #worldpoetryday and I couldn’t let it pass without posting about one of my truest loves…

When I started getting back fully to writing in Jan 2022 I was thinking that I should focus on my books; memoir, short stories, children’s books and also writing for magazines.

As much as I love writing these things it doesn’t ignite my soul the way that #poetry does. I had forgotten the poet within me, I locked her away during a toxic relationship and I thought it was too late to get her back. This wasn’t the case.

Since I found @lauriebolger_ and her amazing workshops I have rekindled my love not just for poetry but for the poet within myself and it has reignited who I am creatively.

I am learning so much on my poetry journey, I am exploring forms I never imagined and I am finding worth and confidence in myself along the way. I am proud to be what my poetry is; fizzy, punchy, gutsy, sweet, soulful and honest.

I used to hate #haikupoetry but now I find myself exploring it daily and it has really added a twist to my writing and helped me condense my practice.

I have made poetry apart of my project Create to Heal because of how much I’ve gotten from it and I believe it has incredible healing capabilities, even if you are only beginning your journey.

Here’s what you need to know about my approach to my business:

Sword or Blanket today?

What does this mean and why do I use it?

In so many areas of our lives assumptions are made. It is seen as rude or embarrassing to not know the answer, we are striving for perfection constantly but knowledge comes from questioning and making mistakes.

My approach of sword or blanket? is my way of asking YOU what you need from ME. I may be able to mentor, guide and be a pal on this journey but I can’t and won’t pretend to know what you need in each meeting or at each stage because we are all healing differently and at different paces.

If you need a sword, I will help you find your strength and equip you with what you need.

If you need a blanket, I will help you find comfort and peace and give you ways to bring that comfort into life for yourself.

There is never a right or wrong answer only what YOU need.
